Snapchat’s Popularity for Health/Wellness Advice May Provide Opportunity for Marketers

Recent research from Snapchat and Ipsos found that Snapchat users are very likely to use the platform, as well as other social platforms, to find information on health and wellness topics

Snapchat’s take is that consumers are using social platforms to expand their options for gaining health information beyond provider offices. According to their data, 95% of Snapchat users are highly interested in health and wellness topics and they are 1.2 times more likely to make health and wellness product purchases. Additional data from Snapchat’s research includes:

  • 58% of daily Snapchat users do research on health topics on social media.
  • 61% use social platforms to compare and contrast various brands and health treatments.
  • Snapchat users trust the platform for discussions on health topics and believe their health conversations are safer and more authentic than on other platforms.

This data would indicate that Snapchat provides an opportunity for healthcare marketers. However, it’s a strategy that should be carefully considered, as reliance on the internet for health information can be risky. While there is vetted and authentic health information available online, not everything is valid.
