Many Gen Z Healthcare Workers Looking to Exit the Field

At a time when the healthcare workforce will soon see older workers retiring in large numbers, many Gen Z workers are expressing dissatisfaction with their situations.

A recent Harris Poll found that 70% of Gen Z healthcare workers are ready to look to other fields for employment within the next year.

What is sparking this dissatisfaction? Only twenty-five percent of Gen Z healthcare workers who responded to the poll believe their employers have their long-term career advancement as a priority. Almost all of the respondents said that they want education and training to advance their careers, and 86% of them believe that education will help them with advancement.

While 47% of employers understand that lack of training and education is a major reason for people to leave their jobs, only 48% actually offer a definitive education/training program. In addition, college and training programs cost more, so it’s more difficult for workers to pay for advanced education and training on their own.

For Gen Z, there’s more to benefits than portals, emails, and brochures. They want to hear directly from their peers and managers about opportunities for advancement.
